They took the night.

March got crazy and the West Virginia Mountaineers made us all proud.  Still feeling bitter?  Order a very special Duke tee at hatersports.com.

Poison TV.

The excessive advertising in the Lady Gaga and Beyonce's #1 club anthem Telephone is far from subliminal.  Since its release the video, which has little relevance to the song, has been criticized and banned but I think it's just lovely.  Gaga is the Madonna for a new generation and Beyonce is identifiable by one letter.  They may be two of the highest paid performers in the industry but advertising money never gets old.  Here's a lineup of the most obvious symbolism and brand exposure in Telephone:

Coca-Cola / cigarettes / Virgin Mobile / Polaroid / poison / Wonder Bread /
Miracle Whip

Honorable mention to all the rappers (Ludacris, Fabolous) and singers (Keri Hilson, T-Pain) shouting out Hennessy, Conjure, Nuvo, Grey Goose, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, Christian Dior, Marc Jacobs, Versace, Burberry, Tiffany'sRolex, Louis Vuitton.

Fruity Pebbles.

Spring is bringing a wave of pastels.  From headphones to shoes everything is brighter.  Even if you prefer all black add color to an outfit by wearing yellow tights from H&M!

Concert Couture 101.

Concerts can get crazy, indoors and out, but that's no excuse to lower the style bar.  From the annual festivals i.e. Coachella, Bonnaroo, All Points West, and Lollapalooza to a small local show i.e. Julian Casablancas there are so many options to help you look your best.

  • Concert Couture Tip 1  Flip flops and sandals are never a good pick for any show.  Outdoor shows bring mud and dirt, indoors be prepared to get toes stepped on (which is never good on a pedicure) and watch for spilled alcoholic beverages - both very uncomfortable in sandals.
Try this:  Wear an old pair of broken in boots that are cute but you could care less who pukes on them.  Another good option is your old faithful pair of Chuck Taylors but keep in mind you'll be one of many wearing the classics.
  • Concert Couture Tip 2  If you love something let the world know!  Concert tees and concerts go hand in hand...obviously.  Purchase a shirt at the show or wear something to support artist you like.

Try this:  Make a customized concert tee using iron on transfers.  If that's too much work wear something that reflects the artist like Lady Gaga's "little monsters" and the evident Alexander McQueen influence her audience embraces.  Just don't go too poser with it.
  • Concert Couture Tip 3  Accessorize wisely with heavy and unique necklaces and bracelets.  The more layered the better.  Make sure your accessories are sturdy and strong pieces that wont break easily.  Hats and sunglasses can be a saving grace at an outdoor show, but remember to bring your least favorite in case you turn into a careless drunk.

Try this:  Go to a cheap accessory store or corner vendor for easily replaceable items.
