Amanda Yoakum shocks and relieves me. She's just
a simple girl with simple needs but inside that mind of hers is a force to be reckoned with. Upon graduating from
Parsons: The New School of Design in 2007 she knew she wanted to get into fashion but didn't have the specifics
down yet. Within only a few short years she has become the creative mastermind behind YoaKustom customized
kicks. If this is your first time hearing about her surreal creations brace yourself for New York City's next best thing.
One day Eugeen, Amanda's boy toy, asked her to customize a pair of kicks for his birthday. He was so blown
away by the final results that he posted it on the internet. This generated a worldwide response that urged her to keep
making more, and Amanda supplied the demand. She wanted to create something that was unique to each customer.
The process of ordering one of her customized kicks is similar to what Eugeen did. He asked for something and she delivered.
Now, thanks to the world wide web Amanda's clientele is all over the world in places she's never even seen before. What's
more impressive is that she will never duplicate the same sneaker twice - only in concept.
Of course with popularity
comes a following of weirdos. Some of Amanda's strangest requests involve animal abuse from pitbulls to chicken fights.
Who in the hell would want that on a fresh pair of sneakers?! As an animal right believer those requests are not on
her radar, and it's refreshing to see such a talented artist sticking to a code of ethics. Her most common request is
sports teams. Lets hope nobody is wasting money on any customized GIANTS kicks (I kid, I kid).
For the launch party of my web site Amanda featured the "Get Randy" kicks, which were a crowd
favorite that looked stunning next to that pink bottle of Nuvo.

I debated much on what I would be for halloween this year. For the work costume
I'll stick with being Donovan McNabb and based off of last nights Eagles performance that's scary enough.
But, for a night out with my girls I decided to be the one and only Rihanna. If you're wondering
how I'll pull it off just wait and see. This could go in all sorts of directions. Thankfully, my studded eye patch
is already en route.
